Hanso Foundation Ads sponsored by Sprite

The mystery of Lost has been solved: It's all about branding. For the past two weeks, a mysterious commercial for a fake organization called The Hanso Foundation has aired during the show. It is part of the giant global game called The Lost Experience, which features online, mobile, print, and televised components that give clues to the mystery of the Lost island.

Some sharp-eyed "Losties"
have noticed something about the commercial--corporate sponsorship. Small text that briefly flashes onscreen indicates that while the ad may be a part of the game, it is "Sponsored by Sprite."

At the end of the commercial a message tells the viewer to "Go to for more information." (Lymon, as in "Sprite has the taste of lymon.")

Once on the site, the word "Obey"--as in "Obey Your Thirst with Sprite"--is surrounded by glowing blue TV screens that the user must turn into glowing green TV screens to unlock a message. The message has nothing to do with Sprite (so it seems).

The Lost Experience fits neatly into the viral marketing world that networks and companies envision to outfox TiVo.

Michelle set free

Lost actress Michelle Rodriguez got out of jail in Hawaii on Friday after serving only 65 hours of her five-day sentence for drunken driving. The reason for her early exit was because of time spent in custody after her arrest last year, reports the Associated Press. Oahu Community Correctional Center warden Nolan Espinda said inmates receive full credit for any portion of a day served.

Rodriguez, 27, is also serving three years' probation after pleading no contest in 2004 in Los Angeles to three traffic violations, including drunk driving. After her sentencing, Rodriguez, dressed in a brown leather jacket and ankle-length white ruffled skirt, apologized for her attitude toward police officers the night of her arrest (she allegedly told an officer: "I don't (expletive) belong here! Why don't you just put a gun to my head and shoot me!").

She said that steroids she's been taking for allergies since she arrived in Hawaii influenced her behavior. She also said she'd learned to drive only for a "racing movie" – presumably 2001's The Fast and the Furious.

Her incarceration was described as uneventful, with Rodriguez sharing dorm space with 60 other female inmates, Espinda said. The actress was permitted to read and watch TV.

LOST star behind bars

Michelle Rodriguez, who plays tormented ex-cop Ana-Lucia on Lost, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence on Tuesday. She chose a fine and jail sentence over 240 hours of community service, the Associated Press reported.
Rodriguez had been pulled over by police Dec 1 on the Hawaiian island where the series is filmed. Her co-star Cynthia Watros was also stopped on similar grounds within 15 minutes in a separate incident. Both actresses reportedly failed field sobriety tests. Watros pleaded guilty in January; she was fined and ordered to undergo counselling. Rodriguez was already on three years' probation after pleading no contest to three traffic violations in Los Angeles in 2004

E Online reports that ABC has devised a way to keep fans of its hit show confused, guessing and on the edge of their seats during the lazy days of summer reruns. The network announced Monday the creation of an interactive multiplatform treasure-hunt game called Lost Experience that will introduce a new story line but stay true to Lost's signature mix of supernatural and psychological mystery. The Lost Experience will require players to trade email messages and phone calls and check out billboards, TV commercials and Websites to gather all the necessary clues. One of the most exciting parts of the Lost Experience will be the interaction it fosters among people all over the world, according to Michael Benson, a senior VP at ABC. There is no grand prize for those who manage to piece the puzzle together, but ABC promises that those who play will end up learning some of the island's better-kept secrets.
